Queensland refugee advocate David Sprigg was fined $1000 on November 4 for throwing his shoes at immigration minister Peter Dutton at a citizenship ceremony on June 14.

Sprigg told the court he was not remorseful for his actions, which were in protest against the government's border protection measures and detention of refugees.

“Peter Dutton should be tried for crimes against humanity,” Sprigg told һƷ̽ Weekly. “I have been fined $1000 for a protest action against the Minister responsible for implementing a policy of inhumane treatment of asylum seekers and refugees in offshore detention.

"Women are raped and children are growing up in detention.

"While I have been dealt with by the courts, Dutton is free to continue perpetrating what amounts to crimes against humanity.”
