Gimuy/Cairns volunteers for Dr Jonathan Strauss, lead Socialist Alliance (SA) Senate candidate, have criticised the illegal destruction of their roadside election corflutes.
鈥淲e鈥檙e determined to get the word out about Jonathan鈥檚 campaign,鈥 Carine Visschers told 一品探花, adding that Strauss has made the genocidal assault on Gaza his 鈥渢op issue鈥 after emergency action for public housing and the climate.
Visschers said SA, a small party, relies on roadside corflutes to spread the word. 鈥淧eople have told us how glad they were to see these up.鈥
Within a week, many were defaced, destroyed or removed.
Strauss said such destruction is undemocratic and flies in the face of free speech.
鈥淐orflutes are how campaigns that aren鈥檛 financed by billionaires can afford to get the word out.鈥 He added that the criminal damage and theft has been reported.
鈥淪ocialist Alliance has and will consistently oppose Israel鈥檚 attempt to ethnically cleanse Gaza,鈥 Strauss said. 鈥淭he fact that Australian government took two weeks to call out the Israeli military鈥檚 ambush and execution-style war crime killings of 15 humanitarian workers in Gaza on March 23 is unacceptable.鈥
Visschers said SA is the only party 鈥渃onfidently saying what we stand for鈥 and urged supporters聽to 鈥渃ounteract the haters鈥 by聽sharing SA鈥檚 corflute with their networks.
鈥淧eople deserve to know that there is a radical alternative to the major parties.鈥
