Country-Liberal Party

stop deaths in custody

Aboriginal organisations and independent Victorian Senator Lidia Thorpe are calling on the federal government to suspend federal funds for policing and prisons in the Northern Territory until the Country Liberal Party government reduces the incarceration of First Peoples and children. Kerry Smith reports.

The newly elected Northern Territory Country Liberal Party government passed a suite of controversial punitive measures, which many argue will brutalise young children and not make the community any safer. Stephen W Enciso reports.

A report has found that focusing on the treatment and rehabilitation, rather than imprisonment, of Aboriginal people facing drug and alcohol-related charges would save state and territory governments up to $110,000 a year for every person.
